Nimbostratus above! 22nd october 2012 (Singapore)
It seems like the skies are cooking up quite a drizzle! There's the yellow hue of the Sun in part of the sky but quickly covered by the heaps of nimbostratus clouds. It is only 5.41pm and it's already getting dark. I guess we won't be expecting a sunset this evening.
cumulus floats! 29th october 2012 (singapore)
The skies are finally clearing up! It's going to be fine weather in Singapore and I guess we would be expecting more outdoor trips. Fractus floats, disassembling from the cumulus and creating wisps in the sky, creating an unique sight for all.
Nimbostratus is back and coming even stronger : heavy showers
It seems so that the sunny days are over as more and more cumuli gather together to form nimbostratus clouds, creating cold weather for the tropical climate of Singapore. The small island will be expecting light showers almost everyday lasting for a hour or two.
Cloudy...with a chance of showers?
The days of rain are over but the skies of this city won't last sunny for long. Occasional showers are expected more in the afternoon with the huge clumps of the cumuli congestus building up after being swept away by the strati in the morning.
say goodbye to the white skies
And the Sun's back shining! The layers of strati have diffused out of Singapore and these are the photos of the sunset today. The third picture from the left is actually a Nacreous cloud. I tried to zoom as much as I could and set the exposure of the camera so that the rainbow colours on the cloud can actually be seen but it still looks different when I took the picture. You can google the Nacreous clouds if you are interested to see how it actually looks like.
more amazing sunsets coming your way!
Rare and uncommon clouds take a dip in the Singapore skies again! Lenticular clouds were spotted in the morning and though this photos are a little unclear, I'll try to make it zoom when you hover your mouse on it.
a rare sight, not typical at all...but for the first time ever
These shows the first time I saw the iridescent clouds in Malaysia just today. For those who are in regions of Eastern Standard time, make that tomorrow. It was a breathtaking sight as the irisation slowly fade away but form at the edges of a cumulonimbus cloud. When parts of clouds are thin and have similar size droplets, diffraction can make them shine with colours like a corona. In fact, the colours are essentially corona fragments. The effect is called cloud iridescence or irisation, terms derived from Iris the Greek personification of the rainbow.
It has been a long time...but the skies are back
The moon shines bright in the sky and the sunsets are finally back. The nimbostratus clouds are out and cumulus bounces back in the sky!
A lightning storm...erupting and coming on strong
You may be excited to see these spectacular colours at the sunset but on the other side, there was nimbostrati and cumulus congestus clouds altogether. Lightning was creeping through those clouds producing high voltage. There was a high charge of electricity by the lightning conducted in the clouds such that buzzing sounds of electricity could be heard. Truly a rare sight and an interesting experience
it has been a long time...but the fiery sunset has come
Dark fractus clouds hover below the layer of stratocumuli as the Sun brings the colour of the sky to a fiery aura with a bright orange light along with cirrus clouds tipping the grey clouds at the sides. Truly a magnificent sight to end the day.
nostalgia and goals come with clouds
It has been months since pictures have been posted but here's a truckload of pictures of clouds :) One thing I noticed ever since the last time I uploaded a picture I took, is that the sun has sort of "changed its" position. Last year, the sunset was always right smack in the middle of the blocks of flats but now it has shifted more to the left block, thus I always have to get to the highest floor of the building to get pictures of the full sunset but I hope you like the pictures .
14 November 2015 - It has been too long
It has been almost two years since I updated this site. But I'm back. Sunny Singapore has been experiencing weird weather as we are fazed by the haze situation that has affected showers and sunny days heavily. The effect of the monsoons haven't been kicking in as well due to the haze. But here we have a nice altocumulus cloud shielding the sunlight, along with a really nice lens flare in the picture. We also got a cumulus congestus cloud present during sunset, as you can tell by its pink-orange, marmalade hue. It rained after. The third picture just comprises of a mass of cumulus clouds at the beach but I just thought the picture was really nice. SO I put it there.
